Innovation & Entrepreneurship Interdisciplinary Minor
About
The interdisciplinary minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship helps students develop a human-centered mindset that they can use to create new social or commercial ventures or to reinvent organizations that will remain competitive in an ever-changing landscape. Emphasis is placed on a hands-on experiential approach that will prepare students to thrive in a fast-paced complex environment that puts a premium on empathy and the exchange of diverse ideas to create innovative solutions. The 18-credit minor includes 36 courses from 19 different majors that encourage students to develop an individualized course of study that complements their existing major or professional interests. Students in Social Sciences, Humanities, Business, Natural and Applied Sciences, Education, and Allied Health majors are welcome to enroll.
Application of the Minor
Innovation & Entrepreneurship skills and practices are applicable to any career path, whether launching a new venture, working within a startup, or contributing to innovations in an existing organization. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship minor fosters the development of an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset. The courses emphasize developing a human centered approach that will prepare students to thrive in a fast-paced complex environment that puts a premium on empathy and the exchange of diverse ideas to create innovative solutions. Empathetic entrepreneurs better understand the needs of those they serve (customers and stakeholders) and the communities in which they work, increasing opportunities for their enterprise to have a positive social and economic impact. Students develop practical innovation and entrepreneurship skills and practices that apply to any career path, whether launching a new venture, working within a startup, or leading innovations within an existing organization for them to remain competitive in an ever-changing corporate climate.
The Interdisciplinary Minor - Outcomes
The minor is designed to allow students to develop a course of study that complements their existing major or professional interests and is open to students enrolled in all majors. I&E minors will:
- Conceptualize how to start a business or contribute to transforming an existing business.
- Understand the critical organizational and operational components of launching and growing an enterprise.
- Develop self-awareness of their own aptitude and attitude related to innovation and entrepreneurship to facilitate opportunities for personal growth.
- Build practical skills and experiences to apply to their chosen career and professional aspirations.
