FAQ: First-Year Fall Welcome Weekend
Do I need to register for Fall Welcome Weekend?
No, Fall Welcome Weekend is part of your student fee, so it is expected that you will attend.
Is Fall Welcome Weekend mandatory?
Yes. Sessions cover various aspects of your time at Loyola, including academics, activities, and what it means to be a community member. Additionally, we have social programs each night just for new students.
Can my family participate in Fall Welcome Weekend?
Your family can assist you with move-in but unfortunately, it is a student-only program and we would ask students and families to say their good-byes. We do invite families to join us for the live stream of New Student Convocation (a link will be emailed to families prior to the event).
Will I have to pay for meals during Fall Welcome Weekend?
Students' meal plans will be active beginning August 26 and each of our dining facilities will be open throughout the weekend. For more information, please refer to the dining website.
Will we have events every day?
Yes, the program begins on Thursday afternoon and you can expect mandatory information sessions and events through the entire weekend.
If I participate in a Pre-Fall Program do I still need to participate in Fall Welcome Weekend?
Yes, the Pre-Fall Programs are designed to allow you to socialize and meet some of your peers before the start of Fall Welcome Weekend. Our program offers sessions that will educate you about various aspects of your time at Loyola, including academics, activities, and what it means to be a community member.
Do I really need to read the common text?
Yes. There will be a Common Text Panel during Welcome Weekend, followed by small group discussions led by your Messina advisor. Additionally, you can expect that many of your faculty will infuse themes from the text into your first year courses.
How do I request support or accommodations to thrive at Loyola?
If you are a student who needs support or accommodations to learn at Loyola, please visit Loyola's Disability and Accessibility Services website to learn more. If you are planning to register, please start this process immediately so the staff has time to review your requests and have everything in place for you at the start of the semester.
