Designed for faculty, administrators, and staff, these half-day retreats provide a refreshing pause from the daily responsibilities. Participants engage in guided reflections, prayer sessions, and community-building activities that promote personal and professional growth. It's an opportunity to reconnect with one's purpose and mission within the university.
  • Weekend Retreats for Students
Our weekend retreats for students encourage a deep dive into spiritual exploration and fellowship. Set in serene surroundings, these retreats provide a safe space for students to reflect on their life journeys, engage in meaningful discussions, and strengthen bonds with their peers. Through prayer, meditation, and collaborative activities, students are invited to explore their faith and values.
  • Alternative Spring Break Retreats
Going beyond traditional service trips, our Alternative Spring Break retreats combine service learning with spiritual reflection. Students participate in community service projects while also taking time to reflect on their experiences, the impact of their service, and their personal growth. These retreats emphasize the importance of social justice and living out the Jesuit mission in everyday life.

Walking in the Footsteps of St. Ignatius of Loyola

At Loyola University Maryland, the legacy of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, is deeply woven into our identity as the first Jesuit institution in the United States to bear his name. Our pilgrimages to Spain and Rome offer a unique opportunity for students and employees to explore the rich history and spirituality of the Jesuit tradition while walking in the footsteps of St. Ignatius.

Experience the Journey

Our pilgrimages are designed to immerse participants in the life and legacy of St. Ignatius, allowing for personal reflection, spiritual growth, and a deeper understanding of Ignatian spirituality. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Exploration of Key Sites in Spain
Follow Ignatius’s transformative journey in Spain, visiting significant locations such as his birthplace in in the Basque region of Spain, the shrine of Loyola where he experienced profound spiritual conversion, and the beautiful Montserrat monastery. Each site serves as a backdrop for reflection and prayer, inviting participants to contemplate their own spiritual journeys and the call to serve others.
  • A Spiritual Pilgrimage in Rome
Experience the heart of the Jesuit order in Rome by visiting the Jesuit Curia and the magnificent Church of the Gesù, where the remains of St. Ignatius are housed. Participants will engage in guided reflections, exploring the impact of Ignatius’s teachings and the broader Jesuit mission in the world today.
  • Reflective Practices
Throughout the pilgrimage, participants will engage in daily reflections and prayer exercises inspired by Ignatian spirituality. These practices encourage discernment, helping individuals connect their personal experiences with the teachings of Ignatius and the broader Jesuit tradition.
