The Office of Equity and Inclusion — The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) works to meet the University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with an integrative model of leadership. In collaboration with other university offices, divisions, strategic plans, and staff, the OEI supports an institutional climate of Ignatian Citizenship by balancing opportunities for individual enrichment and reflection on how one’s social identities influence choice and responsibilities and collaborative work for justice. The Office fosters companions who think of themselves as part of something bigger and promotes equity and inclusion as the goal of an intentionally inclusive society. 

Position

Graduate Assistant —Inclusive Programming

The Office of Equity and Inclusion is seeking a graduate student who not only possesses a deep passion for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), but also has a strong commitment to advancing these values across the university. This position will provide the chosen candidate with a unique opportunity to gain valuable professional experience, while also contributing towards creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.

Hours and Wages

This assistantship is for the 2024-2025 academic year, starting in August 2024 and ending in May 2025.

Hours: This role will work 225 hours per semester, approximately 15 hours per week.
Wages: $18.00 per hour

Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled as a graduate student at Loyola University Maryland.
  • An inherent interest and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Experience with program management, workshop presentation, and social media is strongly preferred. 
  • Organizational skills for balancing multiple tasks. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well independently and on a team.
  • Creative and critical thinking skills to support program development and implementation needs.
  • Ability to take initiative and offer suggestions for resolving issues and/or improving current processes that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends. 
Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and staffing programs that support community building, awareness, and education. Including, but not limited to, OEI focus groups, the MLK Convocation, Diversity Reading Groups, The Crucial Conversations Series, and The Silver Celebration.
  • Support the implementation of DEI assessments including the university-wide climate survey. 
  • Create and maintain social media accounts for the Office of Equity and Inclusion
  • Support the recruitment, selection, and work of the Undergraduate Diversity Advisory Board.
  • Update and maintain the office’s website and student events platform (The Bridge).
  • Draft and compile OEI’s monthly IDEA Newsletter
  • Provide general administrative support for the office as needed. 
  • Related additional duties and responsibilities may be offered and or assigned throughout the term of the assistantship.

  • Represent the values and mission of Loyola on campus and off campus by serving as a positive role model, being held to the highest ethical and behavioral standards, and making a positive impact in the Loyola community and beyond. 
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with their supervisor and participate in team meetings.
  • Abide by the Loyola University Maryland Student Code of Conduct as well as those of federal and local jurisdictions.
