Frequently Asked Questions

What is Family Weekend? Is there anything fun happening on campus?

Family Weekend is meant to serve as a time where students can invite their families, friends, and special people in their lives to visit campus. We offer many fun events on campus (see schedule here), but also recommend exploring the Baltimore area, trying new restaurants, or visiting historic locations. Overall, this is a great weekend connect with your student and meet other families while doing so!

What are the parking options on campus?

Please visit this website for a campus map of parking options. Beginning after 6pm on Friday, the free parking options include: along Cold Spring Lane behind the Fernandez Center and Jenkins Hall, N. Charles Street past the bridge, the Triangle Lot on Cold Spring Lane, or the Butler parking lot. Further off campus options include: the Fitness and Aquatic Center (FAC) lot and the 5104 York Road lot. Both options have shuttles running on a loop to and from campus.

What lodging options are available? Does Loyola have any promotion codes with specific hotels?

There are no on campus housing options during Family Weekend. For a list of recommended hotels in the area, please visit this website. Loyola does not have any specific partnerships with hotels; however, some offer special rates through the website listed above.

Is there a check-in? Do I need to be on campus at a certain time to participate in the weekend's activities?

There is no formal check-in process for the weekend as a whole. However, there will be check-ins for ticketed events. For example, you do not need to check in anywhere to attend the “Donuts with the Deans,” (not ticketed), but you will if you registered for the “Family Social” (ticketed). For events that require registration, we recommend getting to the event location 5-10 minutes early. Please see our schedule and registration page for details on registering for specific events.

When does registration open?

It is important to note that not all events require registration. However, if it is listed on the schedule that registration is required, it will open in the first two weeks of August. There will be an email sent to students and families about a week prior, so please check your email and university social media regularly! Also, please note that any event marked with an asterisk (*) is by invite only; organizers will reach out to invited students via their Loyola email address.

Do any events cost money?

Most events hosted during Family Weekend are free, and all events are free to students! However, to create these fun experiences, some do come with a cost to families. The events that will have a fee attached this year are the Family Social and our featured performance, Magic and Illusion with Mike Super. Family and friends' prices will be listed next to the event on the schedule page.

Is there any food provided during the weekend?

We're Loyola, of course there will be food! There will be FREE light snacks provided at Loyola/Baltimore Trivia, Donuts with the Deans, and Goodbye From the Evergreens. If you choose to attend the Campus Social, this will be a full meal, so there will be a price associated with it upon registration. If you are looking for more meal options, we reccomend trying some local restaurants; Baltimore is known for their food scene and it lives up to the name!
