Extrinsic Motivators and Assessment Choice Influences Assignment Turn-In Rate in Middle School Classroom

View the poster >>

Abstract:

In this paper, middle school students motivation to complete coursework is addressed. I have found that students struggle with completing work even when given time in class to complete assignments. The teacher wanted to find if there were ways to increase student motivation to complete assignments. The teacher would provide positive and personal feedback to students on assignments, have student set goals for given time period, and provide students with a checklist of their daily to-do assignments. It was found that providing a checklist to students and providing positive feedback to students helped increase the number of assignments completed by students.
