Loyola Transportation

Campus Shuttle Service

MTA Bus Options

Several MTA bus lines run along the boundaries of the Loyola University campus.

  • The #11 bus runs North-South along North Charles St. and is convenient for students going to Towson, downtown Baltimore, Fells Point and Canton.
  • The #33 bus runs East-West along Cold Spring Lane and is convenient for students visiting Morgan State University, Hampden, and the Ridley Athletic Complex. The #33 bus also makes stops at the Cold Spring Lane light rail station (which serves Mount Washington, Hunt Valley, downtown via Howard Street and BWI Airport) and the Cold Spring Metro (subway) Station (with service to Johns Hopkins Hospital, downtown tourist locations, Druid Hill Park and Owings Mills).
  • The #8 bus, which travels North-South along York Road, is also used by students to get to Towson and Towson Town Center.  It also goes south to Hopkins/Waverly and downtown (Fayette/Baltimore St), however the 11 Bus provides a closer drop-off to most of Baltimore’s downtown attractions.

The MTA Bus

  • Requires Charm Cards or exact change (no change is given from fare boxes) – you can refill you Charm Card on the bus.
  • One-way fare is $1.60 or $3.50 for a day pass.
  • Operates on a limited schedule on weekends (While typically less crowded, they will come less frequently)

Charm City Circulator

  • The Charm City Circulator operates 4 free bus routes in the downtown area:
    • The Purple route runs North-South from Penn Station along Charles/St. Paul/Light St. (transfer from Collegetown Shuttle) to Federal Hill.
    • The Orange Route runs East-West along Pratt/Lombard from Little Italy/Jonestown to Hollins Market/West Baltimore.
    • The Green Route runs from City Hall down to Harbor East (via Baltimore and President Streets) and Fells Point (via Aliceanna and Caroline streets) and back up and down Broadway to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
    • The Banner Route runs from the Baltimore Visitors Center in the Inner Harbor on Light St. to Fort McHenry via Locust Point along Key Highway.
  • Additionally, the Harbor Connector connects the Green route at Fells Point (Caroline & Thames Streets) with Canton and Silo Point via water taxi on weekdays.

MARC Train/Amtrak

  • The MARC train operates from Penn Station and Camden Yards on weekdays and weekends for $9 each way to Washington DC – Union Station.

Light Rail

  • Light Rail stops at Cold Spring Lane and provides service to Hunt Valley (North) and downtown via Howard Street and BWI Airport (South).  You will need to take the
  • Loyola Ridley shuttle or the #33 Bus (or walk a mile) to access Light Rail.
  • The Cold Spring Station is located below street level near I-83.  Travel in groups is highly recommended.
  • Paying for the Light Rail can be confusing to new riders.  Riders must pre-purchase a ticket on the platform at one of the ticket booths before riding.  Light rail operates on the honor system and tickets usually are not checked.  However, if an MTA official finds you without a ticket, the fine is in excess of $500.

Water Taxi

  • The Inner Harbor water taxi provides a unique way to see the city (weather permitting). Single ride tickets and day passes are available and can be pre-purchased. Group discounts are also available.  Water Taxi is best utilized as a part of an activity or when guests are in town – other sources of transportation are more convenient and cost-effective.   Please note that extended hours begin in April and extend through late October.

ZipCar

  • Students, faculty, and staff at Loyola University Maryland can now have wheels with no strings attached. Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing service, is now on campus! With Zipcar, members can reserve self-service, on-demand cars by the hour or day, 24/7. Any 18+ student can become a member today for only $25. Enter promo code loyola13 on your application and you’ll get $35 in free driving so you can give it a try on us.

Metro Subway

  • Loyola’s single subway line has a stop at Cold Spring Lane in West Baltimore. Riders from Loyola will need to take a bus (#33, from campus) to access the Metro. Therefore, it is not the best method of transportation from our campus.

Note: Please be sure to confirm on and off-campus resource hours/locations.
