Global Scholars

The Global Studies Global Scholars (GSGS) program is a new signature element of the Global Studies program. Each year, a new cohort is a selected to participate in a Loyola faculty-led program to a destination that offers an opportunity for students to travel to a different destination annually. Programs are designed around the Global Studies learning aims and most costs are covered by a gift from Ellen and Ed Hanway ’74. Students are selected to participate based by application and a new cohort is announced in October. Travel takes place in January during the break between semesters.

In 2024, our pilot cohort traveled to East Africa (Rwanda and Uganda) with Dr. Mary Kate Schneider. In 2025, our GSGS cohort will travel to the French Caribbean (Guadeloupe and Martinique) with Dr. Heidi Shaker and Prof. Catherine Savell.
