SAS Institute, Inc. Business Intelligence and Data Mining Certificate
Business Intelligence (BI) is an interdisciplinary field that combines powerful analytical capabilities, artificial intelligence, computer technologies, and databases to aid decision making through reporting and analysis of business data. The application of analytical approaches to improve decision making and manage organizations has increased substantially in the past decade with the demand for Analytics/BI professionals in industries ranging from financial services to manufacturing to healthcare. The SAS certificate emphasizes applications using both data mining techniques and technologies to prepare students with analytical strategies for solving real world problems.
Loyola University Maryland's Sellinger School of Business offer an academic certificate in Business Intelligence and Data Mining in partnership with SAS Institute, Inc. to students who complete four identified courses, with a B or better in each course. This is an academic certificate of completion and not equivalent to the professional certifications offered by SAS Institute, Inc., that require testing at specific locations.
Course requirements for Professional's MBA students:
- Emerging Technologies and Analytics (3 credits)
- Applied Business Statistics (3 credits)
- Introduction to Data Science (3 credits)
- Business Intelligence and Data Mining (3 credits)
SAS certificate students learn enterprise analytics technologies, BI theory, and data mining software and develop analytically-based solutions for difficult business challenges. Given the availability of an increasing amount of data in the cloud, a cloud-based approach can make these solutions more collaborative, faster to deploy, and cost-effective. Students will be able to describe practical applications of analytical technologies and common data mining analytic tools, such as linear and logistic regression, neural networks, decision trees, and cluster analysis. Students will also develop powerful analytical models using data, for example, from a CRM system including customer and purchasing behaviors, as well as from a third party cloud-based web service.
The certificate is offered through Loyola University Maryland in partnership with SAS Institute, Inc., one of the leading software companies in business analytics and data mining. Students will have the opportunity to learn and use the most recent versions of SAS® Enterprise Miner™ and visualization software.
