Dr. Leah Saal named finalist for 2019 Lynton Award

Co-director and assistant professor of the literacy education program, Leah Katherine Saal, Ph.D., was selected as a finalist for the prestigious 2019 Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty.

This national award recognizes a faculty member who connects his or her teaching, research, and service to community engagement and is designated for early career faculty who are pre-tenure at tenure-granting campuses or within the first six years at campuses with long-term contracts.

Dr. Saal will be recognized during the in-person presentation of the Lynton Award at Campus Compact’s national conference in March 2020.

Dr. Saal teaches graduate courses in literacy education and educational research. She values service-learning as an authentic pathway to prepare students to become inquiring and reflective pedagogues in urban environs. She is also the co-creator of the Learning to LEAD program, a program that incorporates people with disabilities into law enforcement training. Dr. Saal was awarded a state grant to run the program.
