Credit for Prior Learning

Loyola University Maryland’s M.Ed. program in Montessori Education is designed to revolutionize your career. 

The Credit for Prior Learning pathway allows eligible MACTE-diploma holders to leverage their training toward earning a master’s degree in a convenient online and affordable format. Upon graduation, our students are prepared to shape the future of Montessori education as culturally responsive leaders and advocates, promoting their profession and addressing the diverse needs of students.

A fee is paid upon program admission for the transfer in of 15 credits for a MACTE-accredited training credential at either the Infant/Toddler, Early Childhood, Elementary I-II, or Administrator’s level.

Note: International students cannot be issued a form I-20 for this online program. 

  • Prospective students must submit their credential from a MACTE-accredited IT, EC, EL I-II, or Admin training program during the admissions process for evaluation. Upon assessment, qualifying candidates may apply 15 graduate credit hours towards the master’s degree.
  • A non-refundable flat fee of $165 per credit ($2,475) is charged at the time of admission for the evaluation of the MACTE credential and must be paid in full prior to entering the program.
  • It is important to note that credit for prior learning requests can only be made at the time of application. Credits cannot be applied to degree sequence once a student is admitted to the program.
  • Students can begin in either Summer or Fall term, taking 1-2 classes (6 credits) each semester.
  • All classes are offered in an engaging online format for working professionals.
  • Students complete a semester-long practicum in a professional setting.

Partial scholarships are available on a yearly basis and are first-come, first-served at the time of admission.

  • Based on which MACTE credential is held, the following pedagogical courses will be posted to the Loyola transcript as transfer equivalency upon acceptance into the program. See catalogue for course details.
  • Students will need access to a professional environment for MO667 (Advanced Capstone Practicum).

Upon admission into the program and payment of the Credit for Prior Learning fee, students will take the following Core credits to complete the M.Ed. program.
