Kodály Summer Housing

Should I stay on campus?

Students who live more than 30 minutes from Loyola are strongly advised to stay in residence hall housing during the Kodály program.  Some students who live closer to Loyola choose to stay on campus in order to totally immerse themselves in the summer master’s degree program.

Location

Kodály program students who request on campus housing will stay in Campion Tower or McAuley Hall (building #6 on the campus map) in two-bedroom apartment suites.

Floor Plan

Each apartment suite has two bedrooms, with one student occupying each bedroom. Suite mates must be of the same gender, and students who know each other may request to be assigned to the same suite. The two suite mates share a bathroom, kitchen, and living/dining room. The kitchen has an oven, refrigerator, and sink. There are no microwave ovens provided, but students may bring their own, if they wish. A courtyard and a laundry room are located in the center of the apartments.

Students do not have the option of requesting one person per suite, with one bedroom left unoccupied, although that occasionally occurs by default, depending upon the number and gender of students requiring housing.

Supplies and Food

Linens are included; students must provide their own dishes, utensils, cookware, microwave ovens, and alarm clocks. Wake-up calls are not available. Students may bring extra blankets and pillows, if wanted.

Meals are not included in the housing fee. AKI students may eat lunch in Loyola’s Boulder Gardens cafeteria (#25 on the campus map), but will need to eat breakfast and dinner in their apartment kitchens. There are a number of grocery stores and restaurants within one mile of the intersection of York Road and Notre Dame Lane, reached by traveling north on York Road.

Keys

Each student will receive a brass key ($65 lost key fee) which opens the apartment suite, and a card key/ID card ($25 lost key fee) which opens the entrance to the apartment building, as well as practice rooms, the computer lab, and other spaces used by AKI.
