Admissions

What is the average GPA of applicants?

At Loyola, we look at an applicant’s whole admission application and GPA is only one factor. We require an undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0 for unconditional admission to our program. Applicants under the 3.0 threshold may be considered for probational admission.

The Program

Can I work while I am a candidate in the program?

Yes, this program is designed to accommodate teachers. We currently offer evenings, weekends, and hybrid (online/in person) class formats.

When are classes offered?

The majority of our class offerings are 8-week sessions that meet one night per week from 4:45pm-8:45pm or 5:00pm-8:45pm. We are a limited number of traditional 15-week classes that meet one night per week 4:30-7:00 p.m. (or two nights per week in the summer) or 7:05-9:35 p.m. We offer weekend classes that meet over three weekends on Fridays from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Do you offer any classes fully online?

The majority of our classes are hybrid (meetings both in person and online). We currently only offer 1 fully online course- AD682 Technology for School Leaders

Where are the classes offered?

The majority of our classes are offered at the Loyola Timonium Graduate Center. We also offer a small set of classes at the Loyola Columbia Graduate Center, Loyola Baltimore Campus, and Bishop McNamara High School (in Prince George’s County).

How many credits will I need to complete in the program?

The Certification in Administration and Supervision program (principal certification program) is 21 credits; which includes 6 credits of internship. Please find a full listing of the required coursework, course descriptions, and program descriptions in our online academic catalogue.

How long is the program?

Full time candidates can complete the program in 1.5 years.

Internship

Can I work during the internship?

Yes, the internship is the capstone experience for our students. The internship is completed in your own school setting. The internship seminar classes typically meet on three Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Certification

How do I obtain certification?

All of the programs in Educational Leadership lead to Administration I certification. Once you complete the Certification in Administration and Supervision (including the 6-credits of internship) at Loyola University Maryland, you will receive a stamp on your transcript indicating you are eligible for certification. You will need to apply for certification with MSDE and provide your stamped transcript.
