Loyola celebrates the life of Matthew Thompson

Matthew Thompson, a dispatcher for Loyola University Maryland’s department of public safety, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 9, after an extended illness. He was 50.

“Matt served our team and our Loyola community in his work as an officer and a dispatcher,” said Adrian Black, director of public safety. “He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.”

Thompson joined Loyola in 1996 as an officer, left the University for another opportunity, and then returned to Loyola as a dispatcher in October 2015. His wife, Lt. Denise Thompson, also works in Loyola’s department of public safety.

“In my 23 years at Loyola, Matt Thompson was one of the best dispatchers I have ever worked with,” said Jocelyn Kelley, associate director for support operations for public safety. “He always made us smile, even when times were tough. Matt loved his family very much, and we—as his extended family—will miss him tremendously.”

Thompson will be remembered in the intentions at Mass in Loyola’s Alumni Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 12, and the 12:10 p.m. Mass in the Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 15, will be celebrated for him, Denise, and their family. All are welcome.

Arrangements

Services will be held at Evans Life Celebration Home in Parkville, with a receiving of friends on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 4-6 p.m. and a memorial service following at 6 p.m. Read the full obituary on the Evans Funeral Chapel website.
