Karson Institute for Race, Peace & Social Justice partners with The Baltimore Sun to host a Women’s History Month COMloquium

Loyola’s Karson Institute for Race, Peace & Social Justice and The Baltimore Sun have partnered to host a “News and Conversation: Caring for the Kids During COVID,” a special COMloquium conversation that will focus on childcare challenges and solutions amid the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The COMloquium conversation will be held on Monday, March 29, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Founding executive director of the Karson Institute for Race, Peace & Social Justice and Professor of Communication and African American Studies, Karsonya “Kaye” Wise Whitehead, Ph.D., will lead the first panel discussion in collaboration with Sundra Hominik, senior editor, diversity, equity and inclusion for The Baltimore Sun. 

“The Karson Institute has three Centers: the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Center for Research and Culture, and the Center for Public Engagement, and this COMloquium with The Baltimore Sun covers each of our focus areas,” said Whitehead. “Childcare workers and families—especially those of color—have felt the impact of this ongoing pandemic. Now more than ever we need to come together to discuss and identify potential solutions for our youth in Baltimore.”

The “News and Conversation” COMloquium will include expert commentary from local and state level childcare providers including Joan Johnson from the Howard County Child Care Resource Center; Tracy Jost, owner of Kid's Campus Early Learning Center in Dunkirk, Md.; Christine Peusch, executive director of the Maryland State Childcare Association; and Imani Angela Rose, director and delegating nurse from Joshua’s Place in Baltimore City.

The “News and Conversation: Caring for the Kids During COVID” event is open to the public but registration is required.
