Loyola and GENETWORx Laboratories partner in a comprehensive COVID-19 testing program for Spring semester

Loyola University Maryland and GENETWORX Laboratories announced a partnership to utilize GENETWORx Laboratories’ COVID-19 managed testing program to conduct mandatory baseline and repeat testing of all students and athletic staff during the 2021 Spring semester. 

Diagnostic molecular laboratory GENETWORX Laboratories is performing the PCR COVID-19 testing on Loyola’s Evergreen campus. Students and Loyola’s athletic staff are participating in random surveillance testing throughout the semester. GetVitalCheck facilitates surveillance testing and personal symptom checking for faculty, staff, and administrators throughout the Spring semester.

“We know that testing is key to a successful semester for Loyola,” said Terrence Sawyer, J.D., senior vice president. “We are pleased to partner with GENETWORx in this comprehensive repeat testing program.”

Loyola developed a reopening plan, of which testing is an important component in helping to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and promote the health of the University community.

“Colleges now need to provide a comprehensive testing program during the school year to keep their students and employees safe as the pandemic continues to surge. We have partnered with Loyola and numerous other colleges to put in place an on-site managed program of sequential testing for early detection of the COVID-19 virus at these campuses,” said Steve Crossley, head of operations and strategy at GENETWORx Laboratories.

GENETWORx provides the PCR tests, the expertise and staffing to conduct the testing, and a results notification system. The firm also developed, in partnership with Nucleus, a new app that ties together all aspects of the testing program in an end-to-end digital management system. The app was built on a software platform called Aura. Loyola will be utilizing the Aura software to provide an easy way for students and athletic staff to schedule testing throughout the semester using individual QR codes which greatly expedite the testing process.

With the Loyola and GENETWORx partnership, a solid testing program is in place at the University. This semester, the community learning environment that coexists with campus life at Loyola will once again be available to students, albeit in an environment with pandemic protocols.
