Loyola celebrates the life of U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings
Rev. Brian F. Linnane, S.J., president of Loyola University Maryland, released this statement on the death of U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings.
“Congressman Cummings will long be remembered for his commitment to public service and his support for those he represented, particularly the residents of Baltimore City. A civil rights champion, he understood that the people and institutions of Baltimore faced many challenges but even more opportunities, and he led with a depth of knowledge, insight, and compassion. Loyola University Maryland is proud to host an annual Teen Summit on campus each March through our partnership with the Elijah Cummings Youth Program, which offers leadership skills, as well as a desire to engage in community service to students in Maryland's 7th congressional district. With his legacy of leadership, Congressman Cummings kindled in many not just a belief that Baltimore and Maryland have an exceedingly bright future, but also that the community—and each of us—has a responsibility to work together to bring that future to life.”
