About the Speaker
Lieutenant-General The Honourable Roméo Dallaire is a celebrated advocate for global human rights, as well as a highly-respected author, lecturer, leadership consultant, international advisor, former Canadian Senator, and founder of the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security. Throughout his distinguished military career, General Dallaire served most notably as Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda during the 1994 genocide. He continues to work tirelessly to bring national and international attention to situations too-often ignored, whether the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder and moral injury on veterans of security forces and their families, finding strategic solutions for lasting peace, or the prevention of mass atrocities and the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict.
About the Hanway Lecture
Through the Hanway Lecture in Global Studies at Loyola University Maryland, the University brings noteworthy leaders to campus to share timely, relevant insight into today’s global society. In addition to fostering global awareness on campus, the Hanway Lecture engages a broader conversation throughout the region. The Hanway Lecture is an endowed series made possible by a gift from Ellen and Ed Hanway, a member of the University's Class of 1974 and former chair of Loyola’s Board of Trustees.
