Growth Mindset in the World Language Classroom: How to Encourage and Uplift Students after COVID-19

Abstract:

This action research study examines the effect of instilling a growth mindset in students in a high school world language classroom. Data was collected by collecting student writing samples before, during, and after the intervention. A growth mindset was instilled into students by starting every class with a wellness check-in warm-up spoken in French and English. The results showed that instilling a growth mindset in students has a positive effect on their performance in class and their willingness to complete work.
