Student Loan Debt Relief

The Biden-Harris administration announced the Student Debt Relief Plan on August 24, 2022. This plan sought the cancellation of up to $10,000 in student loan debt for borrowers making less than $125,000 annually or families making less than $250,000 annually. Additionally, borrowers who received Pell grants in college could have received up to $20,000 in loan forgiveness.

On June 30, 2023, The Supreme Court struck down the Student Debt Relief Plan.  As a result, the Biden-Harris Administration has created the SAVE plan (Saving on a Valuable Education) with new paths forward to help borrowers reduce their debt and payments as well as a process to ease back into repayment of their federal student loans after the 3 year payment freeze as a result of the National COVID emergency.

Please visit the Federal Student Aid website for more details on the SAVE plan.

Students can check their federal loan history and Pell Grant recipient status by logging into their federal student aid account on studentaid.gov.
