Merit Scholarship FAQs
The following FAQs apply to merit-based scholarships offered to incoming students by the Office of Undergraduate Admission: The Presidential Scholarship, Dean's Scholarship, Loyola Scholarship, and Loyola Transfer Scholarship.
Is my scholarship renewable and what are the retention requirements for my award?
Your scholarship is automatically renewed for four years (8 semesters, fall and spring) provided you maintain full-time enrollment each term (minimum 12 credits per semester), and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. To have a scholarship renewed for each semester, students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
The Office of Financial Aid will contact students who do not satisfy the retention criteria above. Students who lose their scholarship award will have the opportunity to appeal to have their award reinstated.
When does scholarship retention review begin?
Academic retention requirements are reviewed annually.
For students who start in the fall semester, academic retention requirements will be reviewed after completion of the spring semester at Loyola.
For students who start in the spring semester, academic retention requirements will be reviewed after completion of the fall semester at Loyola.
Will the amount of my scholarship change every year?
No. Your scholarship will remain the same for four years.
Can I qualify for other academic scholarships?
Loyola administers a limited number of endowed and privately funded scholarships. These scholarships are reserved for members of the junior and senior classes and are awarded to students who meet the selection criteria specified by the scholarship donor or sponsoring organization. What happens to my scholarship if I choose to study abroad in my junior year?
Your merit-scholarship as well as other forms of institutional financial aid, may only be used for study abroad expenses incurred for programs administered or sponsored by Loyola. Your scholarship will be forfeited for the semester/year you choose to study abroad in a program administered by another college, university, or private organization.
