First-Year Students
Information on your merit-based scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship was established more than 40 years ago to recognize and reward students with outstanding academic talent and credentials. Students are selected for this award on a competitive basis after a comprehensive review of their GPA, course selection, and test scores (if submitted). As a test-optional school, SAT/ACT scores are not required for consideration but are reviewed if provided by the applicant during the admission process.
It is our hope that, as a Presidential Scholar, you will become an academic leader in the classroom as well as an active participant in our extracurricular, social, and community service activities.

Is my scholarship renewable?
Yes. It is automatically renewed for four years (8 semesters, fall and spring) provided you maintain full-time enrollment each term (minimum 12 credits per semester), and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
When does scholarship retention review begin?
Academic retention requirements are reviewed annually. For students who start in the fall semester, academic retention requirements will be reviewed after completion of the spring semester at Loyola. For students who start in the spring semester, academic retention requirements will be reviewed after completion of the fall semester at Loyola.
Will the amount of my scholarship increase each year?
No. Your scholarship will remain the same for four years. The total value of your scholarship is included in your admission letter.
Can I qualify for other academic scholarships?
Loyola administers a limited number of endowed and privately-funded scholarships. These scholarships are reserved for members of the Loyola sophomore, junior, and senior classes, and are awarded to students who meet the selection criteria specified by the scholarship donor or sponsoring organization. Are there forms of need-based financial aid available?
Yes. To be considered for any type of federal, state, or institutional need-based financial aid, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). After receiving the results of FAFSA, the Office of Financial Aid will determine your eligibility for need-based financial aid and send you a Financial Aid Award Notification containing details of the types and amounts of aid you have been awarded.
What happens to my scholarship if I choose to study abroad in my junior year?
The Presidential Scholarship, as well as other forms of institutional financial aid, may only be used for study abroad expenses incurred for programs administered or sponsored by Loyola. The Presidential Scholarship will be forfeited for the semester/year you choose to study abroad in a program administered by another college, university, or private organization.
How do I confirm that I am accepting my scholarship and intend to enroll at Loyola?
To accept the Presidential Scholarship and reserve a space in the incoming class, you must submit an enrollment deposit online at www.loyola.edu/deposit by the date indicated on your admission letter. Receipt of a Presidential Scholarship does not automatically guarantee class or housing space, so it is important for you to submit your deposit as soon as you make the decision to attend Loyola. The deposit is non-refundable unless a student is not awarded class or housing space.
