Celebrate the Humanities

Friday, September 29th
3:00 PM
Fourth Floor Program Room

Formerly named The Big Dig, Celebrate the Humanities! showcases teaching, learning, and research in the humanities at Loyola. This year, we honor Dr. David Carey Jr, the Doehler Chair in History and the recipient of the 2023 Nachbahr Award. He will deliver the annual Nachbahr Address entitled “Activism, Humility, and Collaboration in a Life of the Mind.” We will also honor Prof. Andrea M. Leary, Teaching Professor and Internship Coordinator in the Writing department, who is the recipient of the 2023 CFH Teaching Faculty Excellence Award.

This year's event will additionally feature short oral presentations by two recipients of CFH Student Summer Fellowships, Sabrina Gurung and Robbie Buhite—as well as by France Jimenez, who received a CFH Summer Internship Stipend, and Kate Izzo, Leah Rottler-Gurley, and Jason Rowe who each received CFH Summer Study Program Stipends. In addition, Caitlin Turner and Robbie Buhite will make a joint oral presentation about a new CFH initiative which funded their participation in the Digital Humanities Summer Institute. A reception honoring Dr. Carey will follow, during which attendees can learn more about the summer work of our student fellows and stipend recipients through their poster presentations.
