About Janet Preis
Janet Preis, Ed. D., CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist who received a doctorate in special education from The Johns Hopkins University in 2002. She received her M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Towson University in 1985 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola College (now University) in 1994. She has been on the faculty at Loyola University MD since 1994, initially as a part-time clinical specialist and currently as an associate professor. Dr. Preis served as the graduate program director for 12 years responsible for student enrollment, compliance with ASHA and CAA Standards, and most enjoyably, teaching, mentoring, and advising graduate students. At present, she is the Department Chair, privileged to work with and lead an amazing group of talented and compassionate faculty and staff in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. Previously, she worked in the MD school systems including Harford County, Howard County, and Baltimore County Public Schools, primarily with students ages 3 to 5 years. At present, Dr. Preis has experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses including Autism Spectrum Intervention, Cultural Diversity, Tests and Measurements, School Aged Language Intervention, Research Strategies, and Sociolinguistics. Her research interests are two-fold: (a) children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders, specifically the impact of music on language functioning; and (b) teaching pedagogies for students in speech-language pathology, particularly the integration of anti-racism, diversity, equity, and justice across courses. Finally, Dr. Preis has found Loyola University Maryland, especially the Department of SLHS, to be a place of great challenge, compassion, and care. It is a place where we are all stiving to follow the Ignatian call to ‘be attentive, be reflective, and be loving.’
