CASA Program fuels student's decision to minor in Latin American and Latino Studies.

The time that Allie Whitefleet, ’12 spent with the CASA program in El Salvador during her junior year at Loyola fueled her decision to minor in Latin American and Latino Studies. While in El Salvador she took courses such as History of the Civil War and Economics of Developing Nations while she immersed herself in the cultural life of the Central American country. Her area-studies minor in LALS was the perfect complement to her major in International Business. But learning did not stop with Allie’s graduation from Loyola. Building on what she learned in her major, minor, and study-abroad experience, Allie spent the next two years in Tacna on the Peruvian border with Chile.

As a Jesuit Volunteer Corps member, she taught English at a Jesuit high school in Tacna getting involved in after school programs, family outreach, and community service trips for students. This past year (2017) she became a Fulbright scholar when she was awarded a grant to pursue an MBA in Madrid at the Instituto de Empresa. Her studies propelled her career to include experience in three countries besides the US: El Salvador, Peru, and Spain! Upon graduating from the MBA program, Allie would like to work in operations and management for some time, and eventually pursue a career in the field of Social Enterprise, focusing on companies that create economic and employment opportunities.
