Cathleen Carris, '10, translates Peruvian essay

Cathleen CarrisCathleen Carris, '10, put together the skills she has learned from her history and Spanish majors, as well as her literary and English talents, to translate into English an essay by noted Peruvian modernist essayist and poet, Manuel González Prada (1844-1918).

The article, “The Intellectual and the Worker,” was written to celebrate May Day in the year 1905 and compares the baker’s molding of the dough to the journalist’s molding of words to make sustenance for the tummy and for the mind, respectively.

After spending a semester in Alcalá de Henares in Spain, she is currently engaged with her studies at Alberto Hurtado University in Santiago de Chile.
