Curriculum

The film studies minor allows students to pursue an interdisciplinary curriculum focusing on the history and techniques of film—the dominant art form of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Requirements for the minor:

  •     Fundamentals of Film Studies (CM 346/WR344) or
  •     History of Film (DR 278/PT278)
  •     Film Studies Capstone Seminar
  •     Four electives (12 credits)

The introductory course, Fundamentals of Film Studies, provides the historical foundation and technical knowledge needed for the elective courses. No more than one elective may be at the 100 or 200 level. A student may receive credit for no more than one course taken prior to ME 224. No more than two electives may come from the same department.

The Capstone Seminar allows juniors and seniors to draw upon their previous film courses, focus on a particular topic and experience the challenges and rewards of a seminar format.
