Loyola welcomes applications from international students. An applicant who is neither a U.S. citizen, nor a permanent U.S. resident, who requires a Visa to study in the United States is classified as an international student. International applicants must apply using the Common Application (www.commonapp.org).
English Proficiency
International applicants, from non-English speaking countries, must meet the academic qualifications for admission articulated for prospective freshman and transfers, and demonstrate a reasonable proficiency in the English language. Such applicants are required to submit the results from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). These tests are available in virtually every country and should be taken to allow sufficient time for processing and review. Students taking the Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) must score a 79 or higher. A score of 213 or higher is required if the TOEFL was administered through Computer Adaptive Testing. Students taking the paper-based version of the TOEFL must score a 550 or higher. TOEFL information can be obtained from the Educational Testing Service at http://www.ets.org/.
Credential Evaluations
Applicants who have attended secondary or post-secondary educational institutions outside of the United States are required to provide Loyola with a credential evaluation for a translation of grades and credits. Loyola accepts credential evaluations performed by World Educational Services (WES). Applicants must provide WES with official transcripts (secondary and post-secondary) and official results from state and national examinations. Additional information about WES is available at http://www.wes.org/. An additional fee may be required.
Student Visa Requirements
In addition to providing the information necessary to make an admission decision, including submission of: academic credentials or a WES credential evaluation, standardized test results from either the SAT-I or ACT*, and test results from the TOEFL** to demonstrate English proficiency; International students requiring the Form I-20 for the student visa must complete the following requirements.
*Loyola University is test-optional, and does not require the submission of SAT-I or ACT scores for international applicants. If the applicant wishes to submit SAT-I or ACT scores, they should be sent on the official high school transcript or through the testing organization.
**International students for whom English is not a first language must submit TOEFL results.
