May 2008 Teaching Portfolio Workshop Tuesday, May 27 – Friday, May 30, 2008 The Office of Academic Affairs is excited to offer the 2008 May Teaching Portfolio Workshop again this year! Peter Seldin continues to direct this vital three and one-half day (self-scheduled) workshop for faculty who want to master a clear and coherent organizational system to present their academic work to others. This year’s seasoned Loyola faculty mentors, Marie Kerins (Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology), Cheryl Moore-Thomas (Education), and Peter Rennert-Ariev (Education), will work thoughtfully and confidentially with colleagues developing portfolios. Although the workshop runs over three and one-half days on the Evergreen campus (main campus), participants do not spend the entire time in the workshop. This year’s workshop schedule will be as follows: Tuesday, May 27

Participants will schedule individual appointments at their convenience with the mentors, and have enough time to gather materials and writings to enhance the portfolio after scheduled appointments. By the end of the week, participants will have complete and impressive portfolios ready for review.
All participants will need to collect a few items before attending the workshop. First, each will need a copy of The Teaching Portfolio: A Practical Guide to Improved Performance and Promotion/Tenure Decisions (3rd ed.) by Peter Seldin. The Office of Academic Affairs has a few copies on hand, and we will order more as needed. The cost of the books will be subsidized, and the charge to you will be $20.00 cash or check payable to “Loyola College in Maryland.” Additionally, participants will need to begin collecting evidence of your teaching performance. Additional workshop materials will be sent in May.
