Directors, Institute for Literacy, Language and Culture
The institute frames learning as social and dialogical inquiry within communities of practice. The work of the institute is explicitly situated in social justice, made real by the continual struggle about what it means and how it is enacted in urban schools and communities. We support collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives that focus on issues of literacy.
The institute's overarching goals include creating a space for engaging the themes of literacy, language and culture; extending and contructing knowledge about literacy learning and teaching in urban contexts; seeking external grant funding for research and collaborative initiatives; and sharing our knowledge with partnership schools and local communities.
