Certification in Administration and Supervision

A person who has a master’s degree from an accredited institution and 27 months of satisfactory teaching performance or satisfactory performance as a specialist may complete state certification requirements by earning 18 semester hours of graduate coursework from the following six areas: School Administration, Clinical and/or Instructional Supervision, Curriculum Design, Group Dynamics, School Law, Practicum/Internship.

Experienced classroom teachers who have an inner passion for facilitating student achievement and school improvement will find the Certification in Administration and Supervision a crucial next step in their career programming. Emphasizing a comprehensive curriculum, flexibility, and individual student advisement, the program provides essential leadership training for future school supervisors and principals.

Graduate students interested in careers in supervision or as school principals enjoy the program's emphasis on educational leadership and strategies for working in complex organizations. The program's four primary strands include the development and understanding of leadership styles; a comprehensive look at organizational development, school culture, and perceptions of power; the blending of theory and practice; and an assessment of curriculum development and how people learn.

Successful completion of the program provides eligibility for certification as an Administrator I (Assistant in Administration, Supervisor in Instruction, or Supervisor in Central Administration). Students seeking Administrator II (Principal) certification are required to successfully complete the School Leaders Licensure Assessment exam.
