The Center for Closely Held Firms will conduct a workshop on managing culture clash by way of U.S. Department of Treasury’s worldwide experience. Whether doing business or providing assistance in other countries we encounter the ever present dilemma of understanding and adapting to the new environment. For one to be successful in working with other cultures, one must be prepared to not only understand the other culture, but recognize how one must adapt to the new circumstances. This short experiential workshop will help you understand different cultural attitudes and behaviors. It will also help you develop strategies to solve problems in other cultural settings. The activity uses a case study approach where teams are faced with a cross-cultural conflict. In the given scenario, international workers violate local social norms. The teams must develop a strategy for resolving the conflict and address the communications challenges. We have invited a team of retired executives from the U.S. Department of Treasury cultural training experts with several years of international experience: Lee Niederman has over 25 years of experience managing international training programs and technical assistance. He has worked in a number of countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Joseph Meade has over 20 years experience in international training and technical assistance. He has extensive experience in Africa, Asia and Latin America. And Robert Warfield has almost 30 years of experience in providing technical assistance and training worldwide. He was the Associate Director, Office of Technical Assistance, U.S. Department of the Treasury, which provided technical assistance and training in over 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Please join us for a light breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The program will begin at 8:00 a.m. sharp and adjourn no later than 10:30 a.m. Please also invite your friends to join us.
