Sellinger School maintains AACSB accreditation in business programs

Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management has maintained its accreditation in business by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest-serving global accrediting body for schools offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
Only 607 schools of business, or less than five percent worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education. To maintain accreditation, a business program must undergo a rigorous internal review every five years, through which the program must demonstrate its continued commitment to the 21 quality standards relating to faculty qualification, strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs.
“It takes a great deal of self-evaluation, reflection, and sense of purpose to maintain the quality of programs that earn AACSB accreditation,” said Karyl B. Leggio, Ph.D., dean of the Sellinger School. “We are committed to offering students a quality business education that meets or exceeds the standards of our peers and remains consistent with our Jesuit values. We are quite proud to maintain this honor among the worlds’ most elite business schools.”
O. Homer Erekson, Ph.D., dean of the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University, chaired the Sellinger School’s peer review team.
“Accreditation by AACSB International is indeed a strong measure of a high quality business program,” noted O. Erekson. “We were very impressed with the degree to which the Sellinger School incorporates Jesuit values in its teaching and research. There is a clear emphasis on ethics and social responsibility. The focus on reflective leadership is especially notable.”
As the premier accreditation body for institutions offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate degrees in business and accounting, AACSB accreditation is the mark of quality distinction most widely sought after by business schools. Loyola’s achievement will be recognized this month at the 2011 AACSB International Conference and Annual Meeting in New York, N.Y.
Loyola, the only private institution in Maryland with AACSB accreditation, was recently ranked among the top 50 undergraduate business programs by BusinessWeek in 2011 and its Executive MBA programs were ranked No. 3 in the world by Financial Times for corporate social responsibility.
