Financial Management Association awarded "Superior Chapter" designation
September 1, 2010
Loyola University Maryland’s Financial Management Association (FMA) has been awarded the “Superior Chapter” designation for the 2009-10 academic year. This highly coveted award is given to less than five percent of all FMA chapters. Loyola has been awarded this designation for the second time, the first year in 2007-08.
The honor means that Loyola University Maryland will be recognized worldwide on www.fma.org and in FMA International publications in September 2010. The FMA is the leader in developing and disseminating knowledge about financial decision making. FMA's members include academicians and practitioners.
Loyola’s undergraduate group is co-moderated by Frank D’Souza, Ph.D., and Jon Fulkerson, Ph.D., assistant professors of finance in the Sellinger School of Business and Management. During the 2009-10 academic years, membership grew by more than 40 students. The FMA hosted six speakers on campus, including Dennis Shaughnessy, chairman of the board of FTI Consulting Inc., and Charles Langmead, president of McCormick U.S. Industrial Group, who was also honored last spring as the association’s “Financial Executive of the Year” at the chapter’s annual banquet.
The Sellinger School was also recently recognized in the area of finance by U.S. News & World Report. The magazine ranked the Sellinger School No. 21 in undergraduate specialty programs.
