The Department of Finance in the Sellinger School of Management is delighted to announce year two of The Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund [SAP], a two-course sequence GB828 & GB 829. The SAP Fund is a portion of Loyola’s endowment to be managed, for academic credit, by MSF students and MBA Finance concentrators. The inaugural academic year was 2006-2007.  The students who have experienced SAP this year are highly dedicated and have done an outstanding job.  Based on feed back from students the SAP courses are now three credits instead of two credits.  We are currently soliciting applicants for this opportunity during the 2009 calendar year.

We are seeking students who :

  • are highly motivated and interested in learning in a hands-on environment
  • who are willing to work hard and in a team to achieve a common goal
  • have high ethical standards
  • have an interest, aptitude or experience in investments and portfolio management
  • are able to commit one year to the management of the fund with possible service commitments to act as an advisor for classes that follow

Participants will be required to register for Spring (GB828) and Fall (GB829) semesters (each course is a three credit hours), with a full one-year commitment required for participation.

GB722 is no longer a prerequisite for GB828, the first course in the SAP two-course sequence. Instead, the requirements are successful completion of Financial Strategy, GB703 plus an undergraduate investments course and/or experience in the financial services industry and/or a technical degree (undergrad or graduate). This change means that GB828 will count as GB722 and GB829 will still count as GB723 for graduation requirements.

Course descriptions, an agreement form and an application form can be downloaded from www.loyola.edu/msf/sap, obtained from the front desk at the Timonium or Columbia campuses or in the Finance Department on the Evergreen Campus. If you have any questions or need more information after you obtain these materials please contact Professor Walt Reinhart at 410.617.1555 or the Graduate Programs Office in Timonium.   We are looking forward to an exciting second year starting with the Spring 2009 semester.
