Meet the Dean
Karyl B. Leggio is dean of the Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola University Maryland. She earned a Ph.D. in Business with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Kansas. She previously served as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and the Executive Director for the EMBA program at the University of Missouri Kansas City.
Joining Loyola's Sellinger School of Business and Management as dean in 2008, Karyl Leggio, Ph.D., brings more than her expertise and proven experience. Leggio leads with a vision for Sellinger that will continue to build on its success as a premier business school with a perfect balance of theory, practice, and ethics. While Leggio quickly embraced the Jesuit foundations upon which Loyola and the Sellinger School were built, she also welcomed her role as the new leader of a business school ready to grow in its reach and reputation.
As the dean of the Sellinger School at Loyola University Maryland since 2008, Leggio has implemented a number of new programs, including Loyola’s first its first AACSB-accredited accelerated master of business administration program; the Emerging Leaders MBA; an Accounting Certificate program; Life after Loyola, a program preparing seniors for career and life planning; and a bi-annual speaker series for Sellinger students, Outside In.
The Sellinger School’s academic programs have also achieved accolades from national and international ranking agencies under Leggio’s leadership.: Business Week (45 in undergraduate business in 2010, and top 10 for marketing and business law); US News & World Reports (Top 10 MBA in finance and accounting in 2010); and Financial Times (top 100 globally for the Executive MBA program in 2010 with Corporate Social Responsibility being third in the world.)
Leggio has been awarded numerous grants for her research projects as well as being an award winning teacher. She has experience in developing customized executive education offerings, designing curriculum, developing centers for excellence, and partnering in the business community. She serves on the Boards of the following organizations: Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore; the Downtown Partnership; the Center Club; International Association of Jesuit Business Schools; and the Society of Self Fellows at the University of Kansas. She also serves on committees for the following organizations: Greater Baltimore Committee; Archdiocese of Baltimore Financial Advisory Committee; and AACSB Reaccreditation Teams.
