Institute for Black Achievement

Cheryl Moore-Thomas, Ph.D.
Director, Institute for Black Achievement

The Institute for Black Achievement, located within the Center for Innovation in Urban Education, was established in 2009. The mission of the Institute is to understand, practice and promote the factors, contexts and relationships that support the academic, social, cultural, political, historical and experiential features of development and achievement for children of color. Recognizing excellence as an educational imperative, the faculty, students, and community partners of the Institute use multiple lenses to examine and support the development of Black achievement. This work is approached, disseminated, and practiced through the Institute's divisions of scholarship, teaching and learning, partnerships and community engagement, and advocacy.
