Department of Psychology
Welcome!

Welcome to the new web pages for the
Department of Psychology at Loyola College
in Maryland!

The Psychology Department is committed to the education of students in understanding and appreciating the science of behavior and mental processes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We endorse the educational mission of Loyola College, to “challenge students to learn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world.” As such, students majoring in psychology are exposed to fundamental concepts that provide them with a solid foundation in the discipline. Development of critical thinking skills, an understanding of research methodology and an appreciation of diversity are core to the mission of our programs.

Psychology is among the largest and most popular departments on the College's campus, with 22 faculty, 33 affiliates, 325 graduate students and 206 undergraduate majors.

Our ambition is to create an environment that prepares undergraduates to take their place in the world, more effective for what they have learned with us; our graduates to conduct innovative psychological assessment and pursue careers that use those skills to the benefit of the psychological community, and our faculty to grow in expertise both in teaching and scholarship.

Our faculty have doctorates focusing on several areas of specialization including clinical, counseling, developmental, experimental, personality and social psychology. Many faculty members are licensed and work in a variety of mental health settings, as well as conduct ongoing research. This ensures that material presented in the classroom remains fresh and professionally relevant. Faculty and students are also actively involved with a number of other organizations on campus that promote multi-disciplinary approaches to issues of psychological significance, affording outstanding research and training experiences. The quality of the teachers in our department is evidenced by number of award they have received over the years such as:
