Welcome!

We are pleased that you are interested in the Pastoral Counseling Programs at Loyola College in Maryland and invite you to explore our website to find out more. If—at any time—you would like to speak with someone, feel free to contact Brenda Helsing, our Admissions Coordinator at 410-617-7614 or through e-mail at bhelsing@loyola.edu. We are more than happy to help you as you decide what program is best for you and to discuss with you any concerns that you may have.

We offer training for competency is several areas. Our Ph.D. graduates are fully trained researchers, educators, and mental health counselors who can assume academic, leadership, and supervisory roles.  Our MS students complete a rigorous program that renders them eligible to be licensed professional counselors in nearly all states and provinces that have licensing and certification.  The Master of Science Program is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP), an affiliate of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC). As an accredited Community Counseling program, we provide training to individuals interested in engaging in counseling services in community settings as well as a starting point for additional graduate study.

In addition, our Master of Arts students benefit from the integration expertise of the faculty as they develop human service skills perfectly suited for the complexities of contemporary ministry. We are most excited to announce the addition of an 18 credit hour Certificate in Spirituality and Trauma which will explore the full array of how trauma, loss, and violence effects the human healing experience. Lastly, our 30 credit hour Certificate of Advanced Study allows counselors with graduate degrees to create an individualized program of studies in clinical and academic training that emphasizes spiritual integration.

We understand that making the decision to continue your academic training is a difficult one. Balancing work-life issues, possibly moving to a new location, and returning to an academic setting after time away can seem daunting. You are not alone, however, and the majority of our students have worked their way through such questions. If there is any assistance that we may provide, or perhaps we can put you in contact with a current student or alumni, please feel free to contact us!
