Laptops Loyola has recently begun to replace outdated desktop computers with a laptop for faculty and staff during the standard replacement cycle. Laptops are configured so that after logging in once to Active Directory on-campus, they can be used off-campus with the same login. Laptops can be used at any wired connection on campus, as well as access the web from any wireless hotspot. Wi-fi network HoundNet is the name of the on-campus wireless connection offering access to the Loyola data network and Internet. How do I access HoundNet? Step-by-step instructions for accessing HoundNet are available online or in print form at the Office of Technology Support located in Knott Hall 002. Where can I access HoundNet? You can access HoundNet from any of the Loyola residence halls, in all areas of the Timonium and Columbia Graduate Centers, The Clinical Centers at Belvedere Square, and in the following areas on the Evergreen Campus: Maryland Hall; Sellinger Hall; Primo's 1st and 2nd Floor; Avila Hall; Programming Lounge; Boulder Café; Andrew White Center Reading Room; College Center Food Court; McGuire Hall; Donnelly Science Center; Knott Hall; Jenkins Hall 3rd Floor; Loyola / Notre Dame Library How fast is HoundNet? Depending on your hardware, current wireless technology can operate at speeds up to 54Mbps and often provides an online experience comparable to that of traditional wired networks. Can I still connect to the traditional wired network? Yes, all wired connections inside your dorm room will still provide access to the Loyola data network and Internet. If you do not have a wireless computer or wish to connect using a traditional Ethernet cable, you may do so.
