60 Minutes' Lesley Stahl

In an address to more than 1,600 members of Loyola College in Maryland's Class of 2008, Lesley Stahl, long-time correspondent for CBS’ 60 Minutes news magazine, shared with graduates the importance of pursuing a career they really enjoy, despite any challenges or setbacks they may experience along the way.

“The harder the journey, the greater the stumbles, the greater the sense of achievement,” said Stahl, who also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the ceremony.

Honorees recognized at Commencement included:

  • Lesley Stahl, 60 Minutes correspondent - Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa
  • J. Richard Awalt, '50, real estate developer - The Carroll Medal (recognizes distinguished alumni for noteworthy and meritorious service on behalf of the College)
  • Rose Marie Knott Porter, Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Scholarship Fund President- The President's Medal (awarded to cherished friends and benefactors for service to the College and/or the community)
  • Dorothy M. Brown, Ph.D., former professor, chair, administrator and provost at Georgetown University - John Henry Newman Medal (recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves as exemplars of Catholic education).
  • Viva House, a southwest Baltimore meal program and food pantry - The Milch Award (recognizing superior contributions and achievement by an organization, typically one involved in service)

Angela DiCocco, chair of the Senior Class Gift Campaign, announced at Commencement that the Class of 2008 raised more than $25,000 toward the construction of a greyhound statue at The Rev. Harold A.
