Summer Orientation FAQs

Students at luau during orientation

General Questions

Is In-Person Summer Orientation mandatory?

Summer Orientation is strongly encouraged as it will allow you and your guests to meet Loyola faculty and staff along with current students. Students will be placed in small groups to get to know other incoming students.

Do parents and family members attend Summer Orientation?

Yes, Loyola offers a separate Parent & Family Orientation that runs concurrent with the student program; most students are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or support person and you are limited to two (2) guests in total.

What if I am not able to attend any of the sessions?

We have created a hybrid orientation program this summer, which means that you don’t have to join us on campus. All students will participate in virtual aspects of orientation. If you can’t attend any of the in-person sessions, we’ll invite you to join virtual orientation groups and you’ll receive all of the same information you would have if you were on campus. If you can’t attend the in-person sessions, please complete the unable to attend form so that we can make sure to get you everything you need!

Orientation Registration Questions

How do I register for Summer Orientation?

To register for summer orientation, you will need access to your Loyola email account. Within three to five business days of receipt of your deposit, you will receive your Loyola email address from the Office of Technology Services. This will give you access to The Bridge, Loyola’s engagement platform. From there, you can navigate to our "Class of 2028" group where you’ll see the four Summer Orientation dates. Select the date that works best for you and follow the registration prompts.

Can I register for Orientation by phone?

No, unfortunately we are unable to accept phone reservations. Registrations must be completed online.

Will I be able to get my first choice?

Sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend that you sign up for orientation date as soon as you can. This will improve your chances of registering for a particular session.

Does it matter which session I attend?

No, it doesn't. All of our orientation sessions are exactly the same.

Can I register for an overnight stay if my parents/guests are also attending orientation?

Unfortunately, no. The overnight stay is really intended for students who are traveling alone to orientation.

Where do I find my Loyola username and password?

After submitting your deposit to Loyola, you will receive an email from the Office of Technology Services. Your Loyola ID number, username, and official Loyola email address will be included in the email with the subject line "Loyola University Maryland Account Information". You will receive a separate email with your initial password and further instructions to activate your account. These emails will be sent within 3-5 days of receipt of your deposit, to your personal email address that you provided during the admission process. If you have questions about these email notifications, or need to have them resent, please contact the Office of Technology Support at 410-617-5555 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday. Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) the student MUST be the person to call regarding their username and password; that information cannot be given to parents/guardians.

Orientation Program Details

What time is check-in?

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10:00 a.m. One week before your session, you will receive an email with directions to the check-in location as well as other tips and reminders.

Where do we park?

Specific information will be shared prior to your arrival, but parking is provided for all students and guests near the check in location. Please do not park on N. Charles Street or Cold Spring Lane as they are City streets and therefore, you will be towed after 4:00 p.m.

Are overnight accommodations available?

No, only students who are traveling alone from further than 2 hours to orientation can request to stay overnight the evening of the program. The fee is $25 which includes bed linens and towels, as well as a meal and an evening activity. Students will be housed in the same building as our student orientation staff and where possible, will have a roommate with them.

Are overnight accommodations available for guests?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer overnight housing for guests. We would recommend checking our recommended hotel list.

What should I wear?

Casual clothing in layers and comfortable shoes for walking are suggested for both students and family members. While the days are generally quite warm outside, the session rooms often feel cool by comparison.

When will I register for my classes and for housing?

In late June, students will be asked to complete two phases of a housing application. In early July, students will receive an email from their Messina advisor to set-up an advising appointment where you will schedule your fall classes.

What time does orientation end?

The last portion of the program will conclude at 5:00 p.m.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, please email orientation@loyola.edu. Cancellations must be made three business days prior to check-in for the orientation session for which you are registered. If you paid for any portion of your registration, we will work with you to provide a refund.
