OUTLoyola is a group of faculty, staff, and administrators of all backgrounds who are interested in promoting equality for the LGBT members of the campus community and informed dialogue about LGBT issues at Loyola. The group meets regularly during the academic year to discuss issues of relevance for the LGBT community and to work on initiatives to enrich the experience of LGBT people and their allies at Loyola.
For a detailed description of how OUTLoyola’s aims are linked to Loyola’s Core Values. Current Initiatives
+1 Benefits – OUTLoyola presented a formal request to the Compensation and Benefits Committee of the Loyola Conference that a health benefits option for non-married but legally domiciled adults regardless of same-sex or opposite-sex status be developed for consideration. This request was approved by the Loyola Conference and a policy is currently being developed. It is anticipated that the completed policy will be proposed to and voted on by the Loyola Conference in the 2008-09 academic year. Safe Zone – Safe Zone programs “ . . . provide safe spaces that are highly visible and easily identifiable to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons, where support and understanding is the key and where bigotry and discrimination are not tolerated” (from http://safezonefoundation.tripod.com/id27.html). OUTLoyola is investigating a collaboration with Spectrum (the student Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender and Allied Awareness and Support Group) in establishing a Safe Zone program at Loyola.
