Welcome, and thank you for your interest in “Grounded in Tradition, Educating for the Future,” the strategic plan that will guide Loyola’s endeavors through 2013. This plan represents the collaborative efforts of working groups and individuals from many different areas of our university, and I am eager to begin the exciting work of bringing its goals to life.
When I first became President of Loyola in 2005, I refrained from articulating a personal vision for the university’s potential and future attainments. I thought it far better to spend time getting to know Loyola and its history, and the people and programs that define it today. I am proud to say that the document outlined here stems from those conversations and experiences. Its core goal, that Loyola will be the leading comprehensive Catholic university in the United States, is a natural extension of the extraordinary achievements the university has reached in its more than 155-year history. The plan’s specific initiatives, designed to support the pursuit of our goal, are bold demonstrations of the values and aspirations this university and the people who shape its character have long held, rather than a change in direction.
As you explore the plan, you’ll notice that its key elements focus not on discrete tactical endeavors, although many such programs will develop and be implemented along the way, but on overarching strategic initiatives that will elevate this university in significant ways. As a result, Loyola will build on its exceptional history and strong position as one of our nation’s most outstanding institutions of Catholic higher education and will emerge recognized as the premier university of its kind.
I look forward to your continued support and insights as we embark on this exciting time in Loyola’s history.
