To help students learn about the wide variety of writing opportunities, the department hosts local, national, and international writers and scholars. These speakers meet with students in small groups, often over lunch, and then present their work and discuss their writing careers. The Modern Masters Reading Series invites leading and emerging fiction writers, poets, and writers of creative non-fiction. To find out more about this series, please visit the The Modern Masters web page.

The department also invites individual speakers to discuss topics like professional development, working in the writing industry, getting into graduate school, and even strategies for composing effective technical communication. Their work is showcased below.
