Checklist

First of all, there are lots of hoops. Get used to it. Law school itself is hoop-heavy, and so is just about anything concerned with law! Below are some notes which give you an overview of the application process at Loyola. Download the comprehensive checklist (PDF) .

Timeline

Seniors who are contemplating applying to law school should stick closely to this schedule so that your applications will be considered in a timely fashion by the law schools to which you are applying.

  • Early track: For seniors who have already taken the LSAT between the junior and senior years
  • Fall track: For seniors who will take the LSAT in September/October 
  • Winter track: For seniors who will take the LSAT in December

Early Track
Spring  Register for review course 
May  LSAT review course
Consult LSAC for deadlines  Register for LSAT 
June  Take LSAT 
During first half of September  Identify faculty member to read your personal statement and give you advice concerning it. Give that faculty member information sheet concerning personal statements for law school applicants. See overview page 
September Submit polished draft of personal statement to pre-law advisor 
September Meet with pre-law advisor 
Immediately following your meeting with the pre-law advisor  Give letter of recommendation form and addressed Loyola envelope to faculty members who will write for you and ask them to submit letters of recommendation to LSDAS 
Immediately following your meeting with the pre-law advisor  Finish submitting data to LSDAS 
Before applying  Clean up social media accounts
By the middle of October  Finish law school applications 
Two and a half weeks after asking letter writers to submit letters to LSDAS  Check that LSDAS has received your letters of recommendation and, if necessary, follow up with the letter writer(s) 
Fall Track
Spring or summer  Register for review course 
September, if not earlier  LSAT review course 
Consult LSAC for deadlines  Register for LSAT 
October  Take LSAT
