Veterinary School Requirements

Courses required by the majority of veterinary schools:

  • Math – 1-2 courses
  • General Chemistry with lab – 8 credits
  • Organic Chemistry with lab – 8 credits
  • Biology/Zoology – 3 or more courses
  • Humanities/Social Sciences – 2 or more courses
  • English – 2 courses
  • Microbiology with lab – 4 credits
  • Biochemistry with lab – 4 credits
  • Physics with lab – 8 credits

Courses required by some vet schools:

  • Animal nutrition/ Intro to animal science
  • Genetics
  • Statistics/Biostatistics
  • Business
  • Communication

Due to the variations among schools, it is highly recommended that students research the specific requirements for the schools they are considering. Some required courses are not offered at Loyola, so special arrangements will be necessary.
