Sigma Iota Rho - Delta Sigma Chapter
The Loyola University Maryland Delta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Iota Rho, a nationally recognized International Relations and Global Studies Honor Society, inducted it first class in the Spring of 2012. Sigma Iota Rho aims to promote and reward scholarship and service among students and practitioners of international and global studies and to foster integrity and creative performance in the conduct of world affairs.
The Greek letters stand for the following Greek words:
Sigma - Σ "synesi," meaning Prudence;
Iota - Ι "ideosi," meaning Ideals; and
Rho - R "romi," meaning Power.
These three qualities are essential for the conduct of successful foreign policy and signify some of the most important values studied by those in the field.
To be become a member of Sigma Iota Rho requires:
• completion of twenty-one credits towards the global studies major at Loyola, and at least two courses at the 300 or 400 level
• a cumulative grade point average in global studies courses of 3.4 or higher
• an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher; senior standing.
