Students from the first class of the Emerging Leaders MBA (ELMBA) program at Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management will be honored for completing the program at a ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, in the 4th Floor Program Room in the Andrew White Student Center on Loyola’s Evergreen campus in Baltimore.
Answering the growing demand for accelerated MBA programs, Loyola’s ELMBA program gives students with undergraduate degrees and limited work experience the opportunity to earn an MBA in one year. The 20 students in the first class entered the program in September 2010 will officially graduate at Loyola’s commencement in May 2012.
“The accelerated, one-year MBA program is taking hold on a national basis, in large part as a response to the challenging job market,” said Andrea Giampetro-Meyer, J.D., academic director of the ELMBA program and professor of law and social responsibility at the Sellinger School. “These students took a chance on us, and I think they relied on Loyola’s solid reputation for excellence.”
The ELMBA program is designed for academically talented individuals interested in a rigorous MBA program that blends classroom coursework and experiential learning. That experiential learning focus allowed this ELMBA class to visit corporate executives, complete field studies in San Francisco and Barcelona, and intern at high-profile companies. Many of the students have accepted jobs at companies where they interned, including Carefirst BlueCross BlueShield, Bechtel, Vocus, Corporate Office Properties Trust, Ellin & Tucker, and Stanley, Black & Decker.
Approximately 20 students will enter the ELMBA program’s next class in August/September 2011.
