Rev. Mark Ravizza, S.J., associate professor of philosophy at Santa Clara University and scholar-in-residence at the Casa de la Solidaridad at the University of Central America in El Salvador, will present “The Hope of the Martyrs” at Loyola University Maryland on Monday, March 29. The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. in McGuire Hall on the University’s North Charles Street campus.
Fr. Ravizza’s talk will draw on the theological, historical, philosophical, and social context of El Salvador and his own experiences teaching and ministering to the nation’s people to explore the ways the country has found life and light in the midst of violence, political strife, and economic struggle.
After graduating from Stanford University, Rev. Mark Ravizza, S.J., worked as an engineer and marketing manager in the computer industry. He then attended graduate school at Yale University where he earned a doctorate in philosophy. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1992 after teaching at both Yale University and the University of California at Riverside. Fr. Ravizza is also a senior fellow of the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education. His most recent book is Responsibility and Control, which he authored with John Martin Fischer.
